I’ve always imagined feeding my son to be this amazing and thrilling experience. I would prepare his meals using the latest baby food maker, put his food into a lovely bowl that matches his bib and then voila, meal time is complete. I seriously fantasized about mommy life a but too much, I was so wrong.
I began feeding Landon solids at the 4 1/2 month mark. We started with baby cereal, he had it about 4 times with no struggle until one day he just refused it. He would have a little and then turn his head. That same day he began to vomit (no, not spit up) full on gagging- grown up style (except the consistency was just a watery mess). I was very surprised by this response so I assumed it had something to do with the baby cereal. We decided to try one more time a few weeks later but we got the same result and decided forget cereal lets go straight to pureed foods.

First on the list was banana, result = didn't like it ( in his defence neither does his parents). this was heart breaking for me because what I envisioned for feeding time. He would constantly turn away and push my hand. It was frustrating to say the least. There are certain things you see on Pinterest that leaves you in a momentarily depressed state. One of them being perfectly chopped food on a marble or rustic wooden cutting board, with a few scattered leaves (when you break it down its actually quite embarrassing how caught up we are with flat-lays and picture perfect food displays- I still love them though)- I'm a millennial, don't judge me! Anyhow, the tips from blog links found on Pinterest, google and TheBump just weren't working and cute pictures of the before was all I had when I just wished he would eat!
Though I was tempted to just stop trying there, we decided to keep going.
We tried sweet potato, result = munch, munch! He liked it, and though his portion was about 2Tbsp we were satisfied and continued to give him that for about 2 weeks before we switched to avocado, result = munch, munch! He loved it and without hesitation he would actually open his mouth in anticipation for the next spoonful. Both pear and apple have been easy for Landon and I think I will start experimenting more with combinations and more veggies! The portion he eats each day is still rather tiny in comparison to what I have seen some moms give their tots- but we're making progress.
